Student Council

Students elect their 2026–2027 Student Council

Excitement filled the halls this week as our Student Council Executive candidates campaigned with posters and speeches, sharing their vision for leadership at ISSL. On Thursday afternoon, each candidate addressed the student body, explaining why they should be elected and responding to an impromptu question that tested their readiness and creativity. Following the assembly, classes returned to cast their votes for the Student Council Executive. Students also selected their class representatives—leaders who will bring forward ideas, concerns, and suggestions to strengthen our school community. A big thank‑you to all candidates for their courage, enthusiasm, and commitment to the student voice at ISSL!

We are cordially inviting your school to encourage students to participate in the Essay and Research Paper Competitions being held as part of the 21st Annual Caribbean Child Research Conference, hosted by UNICEF, in collaboration with The University of the West Indies (UWI) and St. George's University, Grenada.

This year's theme is: Promoting the Rights of Every Child, Everywhere.

The Conference provides an important platform for young people to express their views, showcase their creativity and contribute to discussions on issues affecting children and adolescents across the region. Through these competitions, students will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their research, analytical and creative writing skills while engaging with topics that are relevant to their lives and communities.

It would be much appreciated if you could promote these competitions among eligible students. Participation offers a valuable opportunity to have their voices heard and their work recognized at a regional level.

Please find attached the competition guidelines and submission details.

Attractive prizes, including US$500.00 for first place winners, are available.

Closing date: 9 October 2026.

Plastic Clever Schools - Reduce Plastic Waste in School Virtual event (This will be taking place on the PD Day November 6, 2026)

The International Day of Action is back for the third year... this time, with a special theme!

Last year, 38,630 students from 541 schools across 32 countries came together to tackle plastic pollution. This year, we're setting our sights even higher, and we want your school to be a part of it!

The theme of the 2026 International Day of Action is climate connection. This year's theme shines a light on the links between plastic pollution and the climate crisis, helping young people understand how today's environmental challenges are connected. Together, we'll explore the ways plastic impacts our climate, oceans and communities, while celebrating the connections between local action and global change.
